After weeks of teasing the phone across social media channels, Micromax-owned sub-brand YU on Thursday launched its flagship phone Yutopia in India at a price of Rs.24,999. The YU Yutopia will be exclusively available for buy from Amazon India. Pre-bookings begin today from 2PM and the phone will be available for grabs starting from December 26.
YU has also introduced an ‘Assured Upgrade Program’ that will give buyers of the Yutopia an option of an assured upgrade to the second-generation Yutopia, in the future. The Yutopia is the company’s first ever true flagship as it is priced higher than what its phones usually cost. At the same time, the Yutopia crams in a pretty impressive spec-sheet for the price it commands.
The YU Yutopia comes with a 5.2-inch WQHD screen and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor with 4GB of RAM. The 4G LTE capable phone runs Cyanogen OS 12.1 out-of-the-box. The phone comes with 32GB of internal memory which is further expandable by up to 128GB via microSD card.
The Yutopia sports a 21-megapixel camera on the rear aided by optical image stabilisation, autofocus and LED flash. There’s also an 8-megapixel camera on the front. The phone is backed by a 3,000mAh battery which supports Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 2.0.
The Yutopia comes with a unibody metal design with aircraft grade Aluminum body with antenna bands integrated seamlessly into the chassis and the body. It also incorporates a fingerprint scanner and a physical alert slider for quick access to custom notification settings.
At the same time, the company also announced its foray into software services with the launch of its ‘Around YU’ project. Around YU personal assistant aims to provide a seamless experience that simplifies and saves a user’s time and effort to switch between plethora of apps, claims the company.
Around YU pulls up information from apps and web and provides contextual recommendation of content and actions. Recommendations will also be generated based on users’ behavioural patterns.
“We realise that a user spends a lot of his time with his mobile device and at various times of the day he may be looking for entertainment (music, video content), shopping, food, travel etc. While doing that multiple apps need to be installed on the device and that leads a user to juggle between too much information. With Around YU, we have smartly integrated most of these functions and have done back end tie -ups with the best in class providers in the category. It took us almost a year to recognise the right partners, the right services and off course the technical integration into the product. We are announcing travel (local cabs, flights, hotels), food, shopping in the first phase and will add up more categories going forward. Currently our partners include Zomato, Ixigo, and Scandid,” Rahul Sharma, founder, YU Televentures said.
